Perform Dogging Operations - OHSCER218A

Overview

This course covers the functions required to competently perform dogging operations to meet the minimum formal training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification through Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

The scope of dogging includes the:

  • Application of slinging techniques including the selection and/or inspection of lifting gear; and
  • Directing of a crane operator in the movement of a load when the load is out of the operator’s view.

N.B. Slinging techniques are the exercising of judgment in relation to the suitability and condition of lifting gear, and the method of slinging, by consideration of the nature of the load, its mass and its centre of gravity.

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older; and
  • Have at least an intermediate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills; and
  • Have access to a suitable workplace to complete the on-the-job training component.

Delivery

Formal training and theory assessment for this course is delivered over five (5) days using a combination of face-to-face classroom and practical activity sessions. An additional 80 hours (minimum) of supervised on-the-job training is also required.

Outcomes

It is expected that competent participants should be able to:

  • Plan and prepare work
  • Complete dogging work

Upon completion of the training associated with this course, participants will receive a Record of Attendance. Upon successful completion of all assessments (theory and practical) associated with this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of 30497QLD Course in Operating Crane, Rigging & Scaffolding Equipment.
