Operate Self-Erecting Tower Crane (Remote Control) - OHSCER18

Overview

A self-erecting tower crane is a type of tower crane with tower and boom / jib elements that do not dismantle into component sections. Self-erecting tower cranes can be transported between sites as a complete unit. The erection and dismantling process is a fundamental part of the cranes' function.

This course covers the functions required to safely and effectively operate a self-erecting tower crane (remote control) to lift and move loads, and meets the minimum formal training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification through Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.

Entry Requirements

Participants must:

  • Be at least 18 years of age or older; and
  • Have at least an intermediate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills; and
  • Have access to a suitable workplace to complete the on-the-job training component.

Delivery

Formal training and theory assessment for this course is delivered between three (3) and five (5) days of face-to-face classroom and practical activity sessions. N.B. The length of the course depends of the existing level of experience of participants. An additional 40 hours (minimum) of supervised on-the-job training is also required.

Outcomes

It is expected that competent participants should be able to:

  • Plan and prepare for lifting work
  • Manoeuvre crane to perform lifting and moving functions to the maximum extension
  • Shut down and secure the crane

Upon successful completion of all assessments (theory and practical) associated with this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment to acknowledge completion of 30494QLD Course in Self-Erecting Tower Crane Operation.
