Operate a Hoist (Materials or Personnel) - OHSCER238A
Overview
A builder’s hoist is one in which personnel, goods and/or materials may be hoisted, and which comprises a car, structure, machinery or other equipment associated with the hoist, and which may be either a cantilever hoist, a tower hoist or a multiple winch operation.
This course covers the functions required to operate a hoist (materials or personnel) to meet the minimum formal training and assessment standards for the purposes of certification through Workplace Health and Safety Queensland.
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older; and
- Have at least an intermediate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills; and
- Have access to a suitable workplace to complete the on-the-job training component.
Delivery
Formal training for this course is delivered over one (1) day of face-to-face classroom and practical activity sessions. An additional 20 hours (minimum) of supervised on-the-job training is also required.
Outcomes
It is expected that competent participants should be able to:
- Locate, interpret and apply relevant information, standards and specifications to hoist work
- Demonstrate compliance with site safety and OH&S legislation / regulations / codes of practice / advisory standards etc as they apply to workplace operations
- Demonstrate compliance with organisational policies and procedures including quality requirements
- Communicate and work effectively and safely with others
- Complete pre-operational checks and shut down and carry out post operational checks in accordance with manufacturer specifications and OH&S legislation
Upon successful completion of all assessments (theory and practical) associated with this course participants will receive a Statement of Attainment in partial completion of 30497QLD Course in Operating Crane, Rigging & Scaffolding Equipment.
