Gotcha Remote Rescue Kit
The Gotcha Remote Rescue Kit is a unique solution to a problem faced by all workers working at height who use PPE for protection against falls.
Whereas most rescue provisions have focused on the more extreme activities carried out at height, the Gotcha kit is designed for construction workers who use common items of fall protection.
In the event of a fall their situation if suspended is just as serious as any other worker and a swift recovery is essential.
What exactly can the Gotcha do?
The idea of the GOTCHA is to provide a rescue kit that will enable a rescuer to:
- Attach a casualty who is suspended by a fall arrest lanyard
- Raise casualty in order to release their current attachment
- Raise or lower the casualty to a point of safety
- The above capabilities are all achievable without the need for the rescuer to access the casualty.
Overview
This course will enable participants to be deemed a “competent person” as defined by the WH&S Regulation QLD (2008) in relation to planning and undertaking emergency rescues when working at heights.
The scope of Emergency Rescues includes:
- Legislative requirements
- Suspension Trauma - Orthostatic Intolerance
- Signs and symptoms of Suspension Trauma
- Critical phases of a rescue
- Rescue Plans
- Gotcha Remote Retrieval Kit
- Mechanical advantages of retrieval equipment
- High anchor point retrieval
- Low anchor point retrieval
- Inspection and maintenance of rescue equipment
Entry Requirements
Participants must:
- Be at least 18 years of age or older and physically fit; and
- Have at least an intermediate level of numeracy, literacy and communication skills;
Delivery
Formal training and theory assessment for this course is delivered over four (4) hours using a combination of face-to-face classroom and practical activity sessions. Delivery is dependent upon class sizes.
Outcomes
It is expected that competent participants should be able to:
- Plan and prepare work
- Use the appropriate rescue equipment for effective retrievals
- Inspect and maintain rescue equipment.
Upon successful completion of all assessments (theory and practical) associated with this course, participants will receive a Statement of Attendance.
